Project #1: World Vision -ON HOLD-

Due to recent events that have occured in Japan, the Pacific and New Zealand, we have decided to change the priority for our first project to the Red Cross in order to support the earthquake and tsunami relief. Please head over here to read about the outline: [Project #1 - Rewrite]

World Vision Child Rescue

SECTION: Japan & Pacific Relief / Queensland Flood / New Zealand Earthquake

DURATION: -Undecided-, will put up dates after member recruitment.

Previously, our first project was aimed towards World Vision, Child Rescue. However after numerous natural disasters occurring worldwide, we have decided to change our objectives to Red Cross - where the help is needed most:

Japan and Pacific Disasters:
  • On March 11th, Japan was struck by a 8.8-9.1 earthquake.
  • The earthquake later triggered a tsunami which produced 10 meter high waves that shattered the country.
  • Currently: 184 people have been confirmed dead. 707 people are missing. 947 people are injured. Death toll may reach over 1,000.

Queensland Flood Disaster:
  • Preventing the commercial sexual exploitation of children in poor countries.
  • Providing street kids with information and support services to improve their life chances.
  • Helping children who have been forced to migrate to be in less danger of exploitation.
  • Supporting families and communities to care for orphans and children made vulnerable by HIV and AIDS.
  • Helping to save young lives in emergencies by providing food aid, blankets and water.

We also believe much of this assistance will be a sustainable source as the counseling will impact lives, giving them a happier outlook towards the future. Thus this money will be able to benefit the children in the long term, as it will be able to improve their current conditions for a stable upbringing by supporting rehabilitation.

After ringing up Support Service, I managed to find out that 83% of our donation will go directly towards the people in need while 7.7% will be spent on administration and 8.6% will be spent on fund raising. Also we'll have to keep in mind that Paypal takes off 32 cents off every transaction made.

So that's about it for now, a quick outline of the first project. As for our goal of how much we intend to make for the donation as well as who would be interested in participating and the dates of when this will start and finish will have to be discussed and determined after we have our members in.

As this is our first project, it was decided single-handedly but we'll be taking suggestions for the ones in the future.
