SECTION: Japan & Pacific Relief + New Zealand Earthquake
DURATION: June 1st - September 1st
Previously, our first project was aimed towards World Vision, Child Rescue. However after numerous natural disasters occurring worldwide, we have decided to change our objectives to Red Cross - where the help is needed most:
Japan and Pacific Disasters:
- On March 11th, Japan was struck by a 8.8-9.1 magnitude earthquake.
- The earthquake later triggered a tsunami which produced 10 meter high waves that shattered the country.
- Currently the death toll has reached over 1,800.
- Several other surrounding countries were also greatly affected.
- Radiation from nuclear power-plants have exposed many lives to toxic conditions.
- Many have been moved out of their houses for safety and lost their homes.
New Zealand Earthquake Disaster:
- On February 22nd, New Zealand was struck by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake.
- This was an aftershock triggered by the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred on September 4th, 2010.
- Currently the death toll stands at 166. 100 people were also trapped in the ruins of buildings.
- The death toll is expected to rise over 200.
- The government is considering abandoning the destroyed areas. Many will not be able to have their homes back.
Please take the time to consider the amount of trauma, grief and loss the victims had to go through and cope with. Homes have been destroyed and lives have been lost, it is something these victims must rebuild, a home that they treasured.
Red Cross will be providing first-aid and essential supplies and money to these victims. 90% of our donation will be going directly towards those in need while 10% will be used for administration costs.
Paypal will be taking off US$0.32 for every transaction that is made therefore we will also need to keep this in mind when pricing commissions. After member recruitment has finished, we will be launching straight into this project and a new post will be made with commissions available.
As for the dates of when this will start and finish will have to be discussed and determined after we have our members in.
Since this is our first project, it was decided single-handedly but we'll be taking suggestions for the ones in the future.
